Coconut Cupcakes

DSC_6989When my mom asked me to bring dessert home for Easter, I immediately knew I wanted to make these coconut cupcakes from Ina Garten. They are one of my absolute favorites and the shredded coconut serves as a perfect resting place for some festive Peeps! A couple other great options to bring to your Easter meal are these lemon buttermilk cookies or key lime pie bars.  Enjoy:)DSC_6991DSC_6996Chelsea

Home is where my shoe closet is

Home is where my shoe closet is- isn’t that truth?? And since there is nothing better than finally pulling out a pair of sandals after a long, cold winter I decided to give my new Charles by Charles David sandals a test run. These sandals will be the perfect spring and summer staple with their cool cutouts, neutral color, and chunky heel. I am also majorly crushing on the whole line of shirts from Casual Friday. Be sure to pick up your favorite saying for your spring wardrobe- you won’t regret it!

Tie Dye

Ahhhhh- what I wouldn’t give to be sitting back on our balcony on Cabo soaking in that sweet sunshine.  With any hope, we will be enjoying that in a couple months. Until then I will live vicariously through these pictures and count the days until my summer wardrobe can actually come out to play.

Floral Kimono

I have an obsession with kimonos and capes (as seen here). They have a wonderfully hippie vibe that can instantly transform a simple black dress. You can also use them as a chic coverup or throw one on with a pair of ripped jeans for an effortlessly cool look. Happy Spring!

I’m finally back! Between vacation and moving, things have been nuts.  Now that they have slowed down a bit and I can get back to posting at least once a week. I love this outfit from our trip to Cabo because it could be worn at the start of spring (which hopefully comes soon) and is a great mix of patterns.  Let’s all think Spring!!

Goodbye City

0104I have been an avid reader of Cupcakes and Cashmere for many years and it was a big influence on me delving into the crazy world of blogging. About a month ago she posted Reflections in Rentals and it left me inspired.

I moved to Chicago from Michigan almost 7 years ago (more on that here) and have lived in 3 different apartments. The first was a charming 2 bedroom in the heart of Lakeview that I shared with my best friend. The second was the first place that I ever lived alone until my boyfriend and now husband moved into 6 months later. And the third is our current home. It is a place that I love oh so very much and will have a difficult time parting with.

This is where we lived when my husband proposed. It’s where we have spent many a summer nights drinking wine on our front deck with our neighbors who have become our closest friends. It’s where we can be from our front door to bustling downtown Chicago in 10 minutes flat. It’s where we came home to the day after we were married. It’s where our dogs sit on the windowsill for hours and look out into the world. It’s my husband’s and mine first real home. Although it was a rental it always felt like ours.

Why do I write all this? Well, we closed on our first home yesterday! And while it is incredibly exciting to have a place to call all ours it’s very bittersweet. We will be moving out of the city to the suburbs to start a new chapter and I can’t wait to make our house into a home filled with wonderful new memories!
